About Paul
Paul is a parent of four students in the Barrington 220 school district.
He has a strong aptitude and passion for teaching mathematics and is a self-proclaimed "serial hobbyist" with interests in music performance, technology, 3d printing, laser cutting, and tabletop board gaming.
Paul's area of mathematical expertise is calculus, but he also has a great appreciation for geometry, algebra, discrete math, proofs, and exploring the history and derivation of mathematical truths.

"One of my favorite lessons in math pedagogy from my former thesis advisor and teacher, the late Dr. Andrew Engelward, was an exercise in teaching basic arithmetic. After stripping away common symbols and replacing digits with 'alien' glyphs, he asked us to think about how a young student might feel when presented with fundamental math facts we now take for granted. This notion that we (as teachers) should strive to meet our students at their level of understanding and comfort with the material is an exercise in empathy I try to live into.
